Fulham have agreed to loan Canadian international defender Luc de Fougerolles to Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake. The 20-year-old's move is set to run until January with an option to extend through May 2027.

De Fougerolles is currently listed among the players sidelined for Fulham, who have made a difficult start to the Premier League season. Marco Silva's side sit 16th with zero points from their opening two matches, having lost both and conceded four goals while scoring only two. They are already six points behind early leaders Manchester City.

Luc de Fougerolles is a 20-year-old defender who was born in London but represents Canada at international level. He made his senior debut for Fulham in a 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich Town in November 2023. Both of his appearances for the Cottagers to date have come in that competition. He spent the previous campaign on loan with Belgian side Dender EH to gain experience.

On the international stage, de Fougerolles has been a consistent figure for Canada since his debut in 2024, earning 18 caps. He featured in all five of Canada's matches at the recent World Cup, starting four of them. He signed a long-term contract with Fulham last year, tying him to the club until the summer of 2029.

The loan to Real Salt Lake offers de Fougerolles a clear pathway to regular first-team football, which has been limited at Craven Cottage. Real Salt Lake are currently positioned 10th in the Western Conference of MLS, and the defender will aim to help solidify their backline. This move follows a pattern for Fulham, who often use loan spells to develop their promising young talents before integrating them into the Premier League squad.

For Fulham, the temporary departure helps manage the squad while the focus remains on improving their league standings. The club's next opportunity to get points on the board is a home match against Bournemouth, who are 14th, on November 28th.

De Fougerolles' loan reduces defensive options in the short term, though he was not part of the matchday squad for the early league games. His departure coincides with the continued absence of club captain Tom Cairney, who is also on the injured list. Fulham's defensive record so far this season shows room for improvement, and Silva may look to his remaining centre-backs to establish greater stability.

The agreement includes an option for Real Salt Lake to extend the loan until the end of the MLS season in May, giving both clubs flexibility based on the player's performance and fitness. This structured deal protects Fulham's investment in a player they see as a long-term asset. His development in a competitive North American league will be closely monitored by the coaching staff at Motspur Park. Luc de Fougerolles will join his new teammates in Utah immediately.
