Fulham are leading the race to sign Franco Mastantuono on loan from Real Madrid. The 19-year-old Argentine forward, who joined Madrid from River Plate for €63 million last summer, has struggled to make an impact and could reunite with former manager Alvaro Arbeloa at Craven Cottage.
Why is Mastantuono leaving Real Madrid?
Mastantuono’s debut season at Real Madrid was difficult. After a promising start, injuries and limited playing time under Xabi Alonso and later Arbeloa saw his impact fade. He was even left out of Argentina’s World Cup squad. With José Mourinho now in charge, Madrid are reportedly open to loaning him out to help his development.
What’s the appeal for Fulham?
Fulham, who finished 11th in the Premier League last season with 52 points (15W-7D-16L), are an ambitious project under Arbeloa. The Spaniard worked with Mastantuono at Madrid and could provide the youngster with regular playing time. Fulham ended last season on a strong run, winning their last two games, including a 2-0 victory over Newcastle on 24 May 2026.
Who else is interested?
Fiorentina from Serie A have also shown interest in Mastantuono. However, a return to Argentina has been ruled out, with Real Madrid keen for him to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues. Fulham’s appeal lies in their recent form and Arbeloa’s familiarity with the player.
What’s next for Mastantuono?
A loan move seems likely, with Fulham leading the race. If the deal goes through, Mastantuono could make his debut in Fulham’s next fixture, a home game against Chelsea on 24 August 2026. Chelsea finished 10th last season, just one place above Fulham.
