Fulham's Alex Iwobi marked a major milestone on Wednesday, earning his 100th cap for Nigeria in the Super Eagles' 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal. Our number 17 played until the closing stages of the match, receiving applause from supporters inside the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa when he was substituted late on. Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze also featured as Portugal secured a narrow victory through Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição's goals – although Akor Adams had briefly levelled the score for the Super Eagles. After playing for England at youth level, Iwobi committed to Nigeria in 2015 and made his senior debut at just 19 years old. Since then, he's has become one of the Super Eagles' most influential players, representing his birth country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He helped Nigeria claim bronze medals in 2019 and 2025, while also finishing runner-up at the delayed 2021 AFCON. The forward told the Nigeria Football Federation: "I am proud to be where I am today – proud to wear the green and white. I have no regrets choosing Nigeria. "Yes, I would have loved to win the AFCON and perhaps be with the Eagles at the FIFA World Cup that is about to kick off in a few days' time, but no regrets."
